The Gore-tex PacLite membrane is lamintaed to lightweight, strong nylon textiles to produce garments that are extremely breathable, compressible and durably waterproof. The Gore-Tex PacLite membrane contains a protective black layer that is made of an `oil hating` (olephobic) polymer and carbon. This layer allows perspiration vapor to pass though, but keep body oil, cosmetics, salt water, insect repellents and other environmental contaminants form alter the waterproofness fo the membrane. Both th unique membrane and Gore`s advanced processing techniques used to apply the oil hating substance and to integrate the carbon, allow the final membrane to retain adequate durability when used in unlined garments. Weighing 15% less that equivalent 3-layer Gore-Tex garments, PacLite fabrics are ideal when you need shell that it truly light weight, breathable and packable.
Sitka outer layers are originally treated with a Durable Water Repellant finish (DWR), which keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job. This coating needs to be replenished once per season, or more often if the piece gets a lot of use or washing. If water is no longer beading up on your shell, it`s time to repeat it.
Optifade camouflage from GORE is the first and only concealment system ever scientifically designed around the way a hunter`s prey views the world. It`s the only concealment system to combine a symmetry disrupting macro pattern with the fractal geometry based micro pattern designed to become nothing in the eyes of prey at engagement ranges of 20 meters and beyond.
In general, washing your gear in cold or warm water with mild non-deoderant powder laundry soap (non-toxic, biodegradable types preferred) and hand drying it are the best ways to clean Sitka products.
Freeze it and then pick it off with a dull object. Rub the remainder out with a water and white vinegar solution and then wash with detergent.
Like most synthetics, Sika Gear will melt or burn when exposed to flames or direct heat. Use caution when around fires, stoves and hot metal surfaces!
