KARHU Mens Frontier XC Ski Boots

We completely redesigned our XCD and Widetrak boots from the bottom up, with Rottefella NNN system outsoles, whose double steering grooves provide unparalleled control on groomed or backcountry terrain. Significantly lighter and less bulky to go farther and go longer with better fit and durability, our XCD boots blend backcountry touring and downhill ability matched to our XCD skis. We trimmed the bulk on our Widetrak boots as well, achieving a lighter weight and improved, smooth flex up front. Whether you follow the trail or make your own, our boots provide the comfort, warmth and support you need.
We designed the new Frontier from the bottom up, using 3D-Molded Midsoles and our mens and women`s lasts for superior comfort. The new lacing system and 3D-Stitched Tongue hold the foot firmly in place, and 200g Thinsulate insulation and a zip-up lace cover will keep your feet warm and dry all day long. The slimmer lighter profile of the Frontier provides a smooth flex up front, while the NNN BC outsole has double steering grooves for controlling your skis on groomed or backcountry terrain.

Lacing Fingers
The lacing system of the Karhu boots uses extended `fingers` that attach all the way down near the outsole instead of relying on just the sides of the tongue for closure. The result is a better fit of the boot around your foot, as the fingers hold the entire upper close to your foot`s shape. It`s time you got comfort and support from the whole foot.

Lace Cover
On our Widetrak Frontier and Zoom boots, stretchy zip-up lace covers keep loose snow out of your boots so that you stay warm and dry all day long.

Cuffs
The boot is an extension of control over the ski, whose flex and resistance transfer power from the leg, through the binding and into the ski. The taller cuff of our XCD Traverse and XCD Tour boots provide greater leverage for turning and steering the ski, and the Velcro Powerstrap enhances the energy transfer of that leverage. On the lower-cut touring boots of the Widetrak line, the Molded Thermoplastic Cuff provides both fore-aft support and lateral stability for kick and glide on tracks and added control off the trail.

Insulation
Karhu boots use 200g Thinsulate insulation for maximum warmth and comfort without bulk. Thinsulate fibers trap more air in less space than any other insulation material, equating to more warmth. Thinsulate insulation dries quickly and keeps its insulating ability even when wet.

Outsoles
Karhu boots use Vibram 75mm and Rottefella NNN system outsoles for efficient striding and positive energy transfer to the ski. The NNN BC outsole uses a dual material sole for more comfort and support. The NNN system touring boots use a single material outsole. Rottefella`s NNN systems use a pivot point 10mm behind the front of the boot for a natural stride and double steering grooves for better control. The 75mm Vibram provides a durable hiking platform compatible with three-pin touring bindings.
