Women`s-Specific Design
These unique, anatomically designed bags are shaped to fit a woman`s contours and are shorter than our unisex bags to provide an efficient and comfortable fit. To ensure warmth, we place additional insulation over the hood, chest, and foot of the bag. Finally, we include appealing stylistic touches on these bags such as unique colors, wave-shaped baffles, and designer taping along the zipper.
Wave Shaped Baffles
Since down can shift within an individual baffle, we use wave shaped baffles to limit this movement. The up-and-down wave shape creates an obstacle to limit any unwanted side-to-side shifting of the down. These shapes are applied to slant, straight-wall, and sewn-through baffle construction in our down bag line. We use wave-shaped baffles in our women`s line.
Down Insulation
Down not only has a soft, comfortable feel, it has the best warmth-to weight ratio of any insulation available. Down is known for its unmatched thermal efficiency, its high compressibility, and its durability. The one limitation of down is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet.
Box-Baffle Construction
With Box-baffle construction, the down is contained in rectangular chambers with a tricot mesh wall between the baffles. This allows warm air to circulate while preventing the down from shifting. By providing depth between the seam on the liner and the seam on the shell, this baffle method does not allow for cold spots at the seams and works well for three-season and warmer weather bags.
650 Fill Power Down
650-fill power refers to the loft or `fluffiness` of insulation per unit of weight. The higher the fill power, the higher the loft and insulating value of the down. Specifically, fill power is the space that one ounce of down occupies in cubic inches. The fill power of down used in sleeping bags generally ranges from 500 to 850. Kelty uses 650 fill power down for its strong balance of performance and value.
