K2 Apache Crossfire M1 12.0 Ski and Binding System (Discontinued)
Designed for high performance all mountain skiers who primarily ski on piste, the Crossfire maintains superior performance on groomers and still has features to allow you a smooth and controllable ride in the deep fluff. Equally comfortable in long radius GS turns as it is ripping off quick slalom turns, the Crossfire is a smooth and stable platform for both groomers and crud. Redesigned MOD Technology featuring MOD Monic, combined with the new integrated K2/Marker M1 binding system generates power with ease at any speed.
FEATURES:
- Titan Tech Metal Laminate Construction
- MOD Technology
- MOD Monic
- Wood Core
- M1 Binding System with Piston Control
Titan Tech
Titan technology can be visibly seen, as the top layer of titanium has been removed in a small hole pattern, at the tip and tail of the skis, resulting in a lighter, lower swing weight metal laminate ski. Titan Tech results only in weight loss and aids in retaining the stability, dampness, and overall high performance of original metal laminates.
Metal Laminate
The Metal Laminate construction is complex and sophisticated, involving a sandwich layout built from the bottom up. A Metal Laminate ski performs precisely and accurately as well as being extremely stable and damp, primarily because of the 2 sheets of titanium and extra glass layers. While not as forgiving as other ski constructions, metal laminate skis traditionally have a stiffer flex profile and thus are designed for more aggressive and technical skiers.
MOD Technology
MOD is basically an application of mass to the ski in order to quiet and dampen the ride. Traditional dampening methods consisted of simply increasing the thickness and flex of the ski`s core, getting damping benefits, but at the sacrifice of ease and forgiveness. What`s unique about Mod is the mass is applied as a secondary core, independent from the traditional, primary wood core. With this fine tuned amount of mass added separately, both cores can flex or move on top of one another. This allows overall ski flex to be unaffected, retaining ease, versatility, and liveliness, while greatly reducing vibrations and chatter.
MOD Monic
Mod Monic is an extension of Mod Technology, focusing the benefits of mass dampening into one concentrated area. The entire surface of the ski benefits from the Mod structure, but some areas need it more than others. Instead of dampening the whole ski, Mod Monic is placed precisely where it needs to be, so no unnecessary weight! Monic allows for the majority of the Mod structure to be lightened, and have the extra mass focused precisely where it increases performance.
Wood Core
For men`s models a fir or fir/aspen core is used for inherent strength, durability, and energy. A wood core makes the ski more lively and responsive.
M1 Binding System
The new K2/Marker M1 Ski-Binding System sets the standard for performance and integrated industrial design. Central to the new design are the M1 titanium hubs that are imbedded into the core of the ski under foot and enveloped in lightweight composite. This allows for a more balanced and centered fixture point. Fewer moving parts generate more power to the edge, quicker and more efficiently than conventional systems. Additionally, the design of the M1 toe and heel spacers are 30% wider than other rail systems, thus extending binding contact points closer to the edge of the ski. This design increases leverage and power transfer. A fixed heel and floating toe drive power down and forward while still allowing the ski to flex freely, in a more consistent round arc thus maximizing the skis performance. State-of-the-art engineering and a sleek integrated design makes the K2 M1 a lighter, more powerful high performance system.
Piston Control
The integrated hydraulic oil piston provides the ultimate control between the boot, binding and ski. It effectively eliminates negative vibrations and oscillations during the counter-flex of the ski. The ski is quiet and distortion free. Piston Control allows skiers to load and bend the ski in a deeper radius throughout the turn. When the ski is unloaded or unweighted, the Piston Control Interface manages the ski`s rebound and prepares it for the next turn. Skiers initiate quicker, cleaner, and smoother turns.
