Waterproofing Standards
Before labeling TNF footwear as waterproof, TNF shoes must meet the industry standards for waterproofness. Using third party test facilities, TNF shoes are subjected to the Waterproof Flex Test. In this test, 75 percent of the shoe or boot is submerged in a bath of water. The shoe is then repeatedly flexed in the bath of water. The test measures the number of flexes that the shoe can withstand before leakage is detected either due to a hole/break in the upper or complete saturation of the components. To meet industry standards, the shoe must complete 100,000 flexes without any detection of leakage.
PrimaLoft
PrimaLoft is a patented ultrafine microfiber blend that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water repellent. PrimaLoft synthetic insulation absorbs three times less water, is 15% warmer when dry and is 24% warmer when wet that the closest competitive insulation. In addition to these impressive thermal properties, PrimaLoft is lightweight with a down-like softness that adds comfort and appeal.
X-2 Cushioning
Full length EVA midsoles are combined with X-2 inserts to manage the impact in the primary impact areas of the foot; the heel, the metatarsals and, in some styles, the toe region of the foot. X-2 cushioning technology offers the best combination of durability, lightness and energy return.
TNF Winter Grip
TNF Winter Grip is a softer, tackier rubber compound designed specifically to provide optimum protection in the wettest and slickest winter conditions. When used in conjunction with The North Face winter-specific outsole designs with multidirectional lugs and a substantial contact area, TNF Winter Grip is the ideal ingredient for winter`s snow and ice.
