Onsight and the Environment
The materials used in our travel organizer series are produced from recycled plastic water bottles, or polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Disposed bottles are collected in Asia, and then shipped to recycling facilities in Taiwan and Korea. The bottles are then cleaned, and reduced into flakes or pellets about the size of rice grains. Under high pressure the pellets are extruded into fabric yarn, and then weaved into the final material. The plastic has now been upcycled (taking a single use "disposable" product and changing it into a multiple use item that should last 5-20 years).
PET Recycled Materials
Material made in this process uses only 25% of the energy required to make new nylon or polyester, and produces 75% less CO2 emissions. When produced in an quality factory, recycled PET has exactly the same characteristics as polyester fabric produced from virgin chemicals. Currently this recycled material is harder to source then regular fabrics, and 30% more expensive. Additionally, coatings used in our products are water based instead of solvent based, further reducing their environmental impact.
